Fasting and Consecration Guidelines

(Fasting and Consecration period: Jan 3-24)

***NOTE: As applicable, husbands/men are particularly encouraged to lead in all these areas.***
1. Family Prayer. Each day of the fast, gather your family for prayer at least once per day. One may lead or all may pray, but the point here is to develop the habit of praying as a family. It’s simple but hard to do if you haven’t been doing it. Don’t miss one day! J

2. Family Discipleship. Each day of the Fast, gather the family for Bible reading. Spend at least 30 minutes reading and talking through questions. Also, read Voddie Baucham’s book Family Driven Faith. Begin considering how you might best disciple your children and develop times of family instruction, worship, service, and evangelism. CRCC will be helping here throughout the year, but begin seeking God.

3. Family Consecration. Mark your house as God’s territory! Cleanse it from worldly/secular influences. Explain to your children (as necessary) why honoring God in their living is so important! Limit your TV and instead read and fellowship with family and friends, disciple others, develop a skill, or serve someone less fortunate than you. Also, consider some of Voddie Baucham’s suggestions in chapter 7 of Family Driven Faith.

4. A Family Covenant. Use this fast to write a family covenant. It doesn’t matter whether you are single or married or have kids or not. Write out God’s heart for your family with respect to righteousness, discipleship, and serving God’s Kingdom. Think about the call to integrity, who you want your children to be, and any unique gifts or callings your family has.

5. CRCC Prayer. Because family is the priority this consecration season, we won’t pray quite as much corporately this year. The church will be open for prayer each weekday at noon for personal prayer. We will pray as a church Tuesday and Friday evenings from 7:00-8:00pm throughout the Fast. The goal here is to give you time to establish your home in the Gospel.

6. Body Fasting Options: As last year, our physical focus will be on healthy living. The options you choose are up to you. Consult a physician if necessary. Here are some choices:

  • Fasting 24-hour periods, drinking only water or juice.
  • Fast any food or drink you normally cannot do without for the 3-week period.
  • Focus on eating healthy, watching your sugar, salt, fat, and white flour intake.
  • Engage in some form of exercise 3 times per week.

7. Disciple others. Look for opportunities to share your faith. We are praying that each CRCC member wins and begins discipling an unbeliever this year!

8. Stewardship. Start out the year on a written budget and with a Momentum Mindset. Kill as much debt as you can this year. Also, determine in your heart and budget to give using the 10% model.
